Location scouting of The Nines

John August, the director and writer of The Nines, has put a video on his blog where we can see the different locations used for the movie. He says they had some problems finding some nice filming locations, mainly because they have to shoot in a very specific order since the movie is broken into three parts. They had to find dense forest close enough to LA: they ended up, mainly, in Topanga and Malibu.
